Change in Network Operating Systems Coming

ITS will be converting from the Novell network operating system to Microsoft’s Windows Server network operating system. The change will take place over the 2009-2010 academic year and it will provide more cost effective and reliable service, as well as improve computer performance. It will also lay the foundation for many new and exciting services that ITS will finally be able to provide including Exchange mail and calendaring, Sharepoint document collaboration, more secure wireless and remote access networks, and more.

At some point in the near future, Canisius faculty and staff members will be contacted by a member of the Academic Computing team about the conversion of office or department from Netware to Windows Server. The Academic Computing team will modify the configuration on the computers in the department so that everyone is using the Windows Server environment. None of the personal data on your computer will be lost, and you will retain access to all of your departmental data on network drives as well.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the ITS Help Desk at Ext. 2299 or Joel A. Cohen, PhD, associate vice president for Library and Information Services at Ext. 8410. To read more about this initiative, click here.
