H1N1 Outbreak Update
By Center for Teaching Excellence | October 28, 2009
Update as of October 28
The Student health Center reports that the H1N1 has broken out on campus. There have been 9 laboratory-confirmed cases of H1N1 and 17 probable cases of influenza A. The Center continues to see increasing traffic of students sick with flu-like illnesses. The number of ill students is sure to increase over the next week or two. For the most recent set of numbers, visit the Heath Center website; the link is to the right and at the end of this post.
By now, you will have seen more absences, and you may be receiving notification from the Flu Reporting system about absent students. If there are students in your class who are clearly ill–feverish, coughing, etc.–please send them to their rooms or home and ask that they report their illness to the Flu Reporting system (https://merope.canisius.edu:8443/studentflu/).
In addition, we ask that you remind your students about the Flu Reporting System in class.
If you are ill:
Please stay away from campus until 24 hours after your fever has gone (without the aid of fever-reducing medicine). Contact your department chair and the Office of the Registrar to cancel your class meetings, and contact your students via ANGEL to let them know what to do in your absence. If you are feeling well enough, you can post notes, lectures, assignments, and other course activities while you are absent. Be sure to make a note to students regarding course information on the course cancellation form. If you wish students to submit work to you electronically, the last “update” post (see upper left of page for the link) gave links to the ANGEL Drop Box instructions. If you are absent 5 or more days, please contact the Office of Human Resources.
