6. What if I have already installed an earlier version of SoftChalk?

If you already are a SoftChalk user please have IT uninstall the earlier version and reinstall the latest version of Softchalk for the new key features and benefits.

7. When I try to run SoftChalk I get an error message, “Cannot find the main class.” What should I do?

Some users have a program called Oracle JInitiator that has caused a conflict with SoftChalk (which runs on Java). The following instructions should resolve the issue caused by the JInitiator program.

STEPS

  1. Open C:\Program Files\SoftChalk 6 and look for a shortcut to SoftChalk 6. The SoftChalk 6 shortcut icon will have an arrow on it. (Do NOT look for the file SoftChalk6.exe – if you have your extensions hidden, then you may see two SoftChalk6 icons; be sure to choose the shortcut icon.)
  2. Drag the SoftChalk 6 shortcut icon onto your desktop. (If you do NOT see the SoftChalk 6 shortcut icon, you have installed SoftChalk with an older version of the installer. Please uninstall SoftChalk and then download the latest installer from our website (www.softchalk.com) and click Download.)
  3. Double-click on this SoftChalk 6 shortcut icon to start SoftChalk.
  4. To avoid confusion, delete your other icon (the one didn’t start SoftChalk).

(If you do not know how to find C:\Program Files\SoftChalk 6, go to your Start menu and right-click on Computer and choose Open. Then right-click on the C: drive and choose Open. Then open the Program Files folder and then open the SoftChalk 6 folder. Then follow the instructions above.)

8. When I try to run SoftChalk I get an error message, “Unable to create application directory.” What should I do?

Some users with Windows 7 experience this error with Softchalk. Right click on your Softchalk icon (on your desktop), go to ‘properties’, under the ‘compatibility tab’ select the option to ‘open as administrator’. Then click ‘apply’.

9. When I try to open my Softchalk file in ANGEL, I get the error message, “This course requires SCORM 2004 which is not supported in this version of the Scorm Content Player. You will need to upgrade your player to run this content.” What did I do wrong?

You didn’t do anything wrong. The new upgrade in ANGEL now only reads SCORM 1.2 Format. Please open the file in Softchalk and re-export your file as a SCORM 1.2 Format file.

10. I have a Macintosh running OS 10.5.8 (Leopard). When I install SoftChalk 7 and click on the SoftChalk 7 icon, the application doesn’t open. What should I do?

Leopard systems (Macintosh OS 10.5.8) automatically have 64-bit Java installed, but in order to run SoftChalk 7 the 32-bit version is required as well.

There are two solutions:

a) Upgrade your operating system to either Snow Leopard (10.6.8) or Lion (10.7).  These operating systems automatically have both versions of Java.

b) OR Please contact the Softchalk representative at Canisius College to install a previous version of Softchalk. (macviel@canisius.edu)
